Marbled Godwit cruising a Santa Barbara Beach106 viewsThis bird was oblivious to my presence as long as I did not get too close, and as long as I got out of the way! The sun was birght this day.

Red Shouldered Hawk85 viewsThis was a long way away; over 100 yards, but the 200-500mm lens zoomed him in anyway!

Northern Harrier hunting at Whitewater Draw73 viewsFast moving bird, at about 50 yards, at the end of a day. By now the 200-500mm Zoom was pretty heavy. I had a tough time staying on this guy for decent shots. This was not good, but among the best nonetheless. Used a very close crop to lose an annoying post intruding on the frame to save the frame.

Northern Harrier at Whitewater Draw73 viewsThis Northern Harrier showed up just as we thought we were finished for the day. Just at the parking lot, this fella decided it was time to look for dinner.

Belted Kingfisher with Lunch!72 viewsThis photo is way too dark, but I couldn't resist the minnow in his beak.

|

Sandhill Cranes Over Whitewater Draw71 viewsA flight of Sandhill Cranes came by while we were at the refuge, but they just flew past, instead of dropping in for some dramatic landings.

A pair of Western Sandpipers skim the beach on the Santa Barbara coast near Goleta70 viewsThese beautiful birds were also found on our trip South to Arizona. This beach was a treasure trove of birds and rocks and beach.

|

Yellow-Headed Blackbird67 viewsThis is a very poor shot, of an unusual bird I've never seen before. There are out of focus twigs and branches obscuring the lower body of the bird. I removed most of the background because the head and upper torso make the point.
